Overview
Indira Gandhi Musical Fountain is situated at T. Chowdaiah Road, Opposite to Planetarium, it begins in 1995. It is the most technically. Indira Gandhi Musical Fountain, the first computerized fountain in India situated opposite to the Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium was inaugurated in 1995. Located in the heart of the city on the Raj Bhavan road in the old LRDE Complex and spreading over an area of 17 acres, it is one of the main tourist attractions in Bangalore. Based on the latest multimedia technology and fitted with 1000 nozzles, it has 15 formations and 27 combinations of fountains on a bed area of 30 meters by 10 meters. With a seating capacity of about 700 to 1000 people, On an average, about 500 people visit on Saturdays and Sundays. April and May see the most number of visitors. The laser show is an additional attraction. The visual delight of the light and sound show together with the synchronized rhythmic dancing of the fountains provides high versatility in programming as well as in playback to various Indian and Western musical themes. The distinct patterns formed by the musical fountain are projected onto a big screen using a twin projector. The laser show is also performed here, which adds glamour to the musical fountain.
The area surrounding the Musical and Dancing fountain has a landscape that is enriched with many trees, shrubs, and creepers. Added to these are a rosary, rockery, and lawns that beautify the area. Some of the tree species found are Ficus sp. Cypress, Eucalyptus, Peltophorums, Poinciana regia, Lagerstroemia floss-reginae, Silver Oaks And other tree species. Shrubs that are found in the area are Mussaenda rose, Mussaenda philippic, Murraya exotica, Euphorbia leucocephala, Bottlebrush - Callistemon sp., Duranta sp., Thuja compacta, Euphorbia - Flaming sphere, Crotons, Agave americana, Yucca sp. Creepers include Jacquementia violacea, Bougainvillea sp., Bignonia venusta, Passion flowers - Passiflora edulis, and others. Apart from the musical fountain, there is also a garden and a den's park. There is a railway engine placed at the entrance to the park, in honor of the then Central Railway Minister, C K Jaffer Sharief, who presented the musical fountain
Two shows are held at 7.00pm and 8.00pm, each lasting for half an hour. All Mondays and second Tuesdays are holidays. Photography is allowed free of cost but Videography is strictly prohibited. The entry fee is 10 INR for adults and 5 INR for Children between 6 and 12 years.
