Jawahar Bal Bhavan
Overview
Jawahar Bal Bhavan, the children’s park, located near the MG Road end of the Cubbon Park. Bal Bhavan was opened in the year 1967, nearly a hundred years after Cubbon Park itself was opened. It now spreads over more than 11 acres. No map is needed to locate Bal Bhavan. On most days, all you have to do is follow the scent of popcorn or look for the balloon-sellers. The iconic toy train, Puttani Express, ferries both the young and the young at heart around the periphery of Bal Bhavan, past the playgrounds and the water bodies, the theatre, and the many garden areas available for birthday parties and events.
A 20 million-year-old fossilized tree adds to the appeal of the park. The tree was gifted to the Bhawan by the Geological Survey of India. There is a small toy train inside the park that runs on a track of almost 3/4th mile inside the beautiful Cubbon Park. it named Puttani Railu The train has three coaches, which can accommodate 48-50 children’s in a single trip. The ticket for the toy train is 20 INR, It lasts for about fifteen minutes. Jawahar Bal Bhavan provides row, pedal, and motorboats for boat rides. Apart from the train and boating Jawahar Bal Bhavan also have Coin-operated Amusement are provided along with various play equipment like Slides, Swings, See-saw and Turret Wall, Beautiful cottages are constructed to provided entertainment. Jawahar Bal Bhavan also has Children Little Theatre with 425 Seating Capacity with Sufficient Light and Sound System ability to display 35mm and 16mm Film Screen with 2. 35 mm two Projectors and 16mm Projectors. this theater also has Approximately 1500 Sq.ft Wooden Stage to perform activities. this Theatre is well sufficient for conducting Stage and Screening
