Overview
Bhadra dam is called as Bhadra River project (BRP) or Lakkavalli dam. it is located near Lakkavalli village in Tarikere Taluk, Chikmagalur district western part of Karnataka in India. built on the Bhadra river a tributary of Tungabhadra Bhadra River project dam is constructed to store water for irrigation, power generation and also a source of drink water supply for nearby villages.
The 194 feet high BRP Dam was designed by M. Vishweshwaraiah, the then Chief Engineer of Karnataka State that served as the major source of irrigation and power generation (with two turbines) for the city and its surroundings. Throughout the year the water in this dam is up to the brim. The Bhadra dam was constructed between 1947 and 1965. The dam features a height of 59.13 meters (194.0 ft) (above the river bed level). The Bhadra reservoir has a gross storage capacity of 2.025 km3, live storage of 63.00 BCF at full reservoir level and dead storage of 8.50 BCF at RL (reservoir level) of 631.54 meters (2,072.0 ft)
Walking on the dam is not allowed and there will be light show in the night when the dam will be full to open up the gates. There are a number of islands created by the Bhadra river and you can enjoy the boat ride around these islands.

How to get there:
- Nearest Airport: There are no airports in the surrounding areas. The airport is getting constructed in Shimoga. Air travelers have to make use of one of Mangalore, Hubli or Bangalore airports.
- Nearest Railway Station: Tarikere lies on the Bangalore - Shimoga railway line and there are trains from Mysore and Bangalore which stop at Tarikere on the way to Shimoga.
- Road: Lakkavalli dam site is well connected by road network. The lakkavalli dam site is equidistant from Bhadravathi as well as Shimoga. But the drive from Bhadravathis is very picturesque.
