Colva Beach
Overview
Colva Beach Located 6 km away from the west of Margao, Colva beach is one of the largest and striking beaches of South Goa that has fine powdered white sand and bounded by coconut palms that elongate from Bogmalo to Cabo de Rama alongside the coastline of south Goa. This beach is a spectacle of sea, sand, and sky, the perfect blend of an enchant¬ing nat¬ural har¬mony, weav¬ing their magic spell on the vis¬i¬tors. It was known for its scenic beauty. This is part of spectacle Goa’s only Catholic major¬ity sub-district. Once a very hos¬pitable area, now rela¬tions are get¬ting mon¬e¬tized thanks to tourism. The frilly movements of the sea appear as if the sea is lazily enjoying the tickling sensations spread by the waves riding over it. This is how you can describe the sea at the Colva beach. You go to the Colva Beach just to laze, laze and laze. Many choose to go to the Colva beach just to experience a change from the crowded Anjuna beach or the Calangute beach. Sadly, the beauty of the Colva beach has been its downfall as the vicinity has been densely populated by off-beach shops and restaurants which make the area brightly lit and crowded. Consequently giving it the feel of a funfair rather than a serene, unwinding beach. This is essentially our domestic tourist's paddling beach. Swimming is pretty safe at this beach and visitors can really have a gala of time at this beautiful place.
Colva beach has gained popularity with the surge in tourism in Goa. A few years back in Goa, Colva was a simple village housing the fishing community. The tourist who poured in, enchanted by the beauty of Colva beach, made their own arrangements of stay. Our Lady Of Mercy church is on the way to Colva. It is a simple church but it has an interesting history attached to it. This magnificent church was built in 1630 and erected into a parochial church by Bishop Governor. Child Jesus or Infant Jesus (Menino Jesus) is venerated in this church with special devotion. Colva Beach is also a popular destination in south Goa and the beach is surely a jewel in Goa's crown of beaches. Few can rival its scenic splendor. There are also good restaurants with a range of exotic cuisine and quality accommodation available close by. Colva is quite a crowded beach. And, to ones surprise a majority of the crowd consists of locals. Though scenically this isn't one the best beaches although it does have a lot of good restaurants.
