At a distance of 40 Kms from Sringeri & 2 Kms from Kudremukh, The Lakya Dam is a check dam built by Kudremukh Iron Ore Company Ltd across the Lakya River, a tributary of River Bhadra. A check dam across the Lakya, a tributary of Bhadra River is the Lakya Dam having been built by Kudremukh Iron Ore Company and has a height of 100m and spread across an area of 572 hectares. The main purpose of the dam is to deposit the waste materials from the mining operations. The dam is at the backdrop of picturesque terrains, dense forests, and reverberating rivers. The dam is located in a forest with lots of greenery around. The mining was stopped here in 2005 due to the threat to the environment.
