About
Kadalekalu Ganesha is a perfect example of the Vijayanagar style of architecture. The prime attraction of the beautiful shrine housing the statue of Ganesha which is one of the largest in southern India. This incredible monolithic statue is located on the slope of the Hemakuta Hill in Hampi. As the belly of the statue resembles a Bengal gram, which is called Kadalekalu in the local language, the statue is named as Kadalekalu Ganesha. The Ganesha statue is unique in the sense it is about 4.5 meters tall and carved entirely from single granite and is housed in a large shrine with a fine open pillared mantapa in front.
