 Bhagamandala is on the foothills of Talcauvery and is 39 km from Madikeri.before reaching Talacauvery and situated at the confluence of three rivers, the Kaveri, the Kannike and the mythical river Sujyoti. It’s called a mythical river because legend says that the river Sujuyoti flows underground until it meets the sangam, and then it expands into its merry flow.  Bhagamandala is also popularly called the 'Triveni Sangam'. Tri means three and Veni mean stream. Bhagamandala Triveni Sangam is nature combined with spiritual significance, making it a place worth visiting by all. The Bhagandeshwara temple is located on the banks of the three rivers and is one of the important pilgrimage centers in Coorg. Pilgrims proceed to Talcauvery only after offering worship at Bhagamandala. 

Sri Bhagandeshwara Temple is a famous temple known of Lord Shiva, where Bhagandeshwara (Ishwara), Subramanya, Mahavishnu, and Ganapati are installed. Thus this is also known as Bhagundeshwara Kshetra, from which the name Bhagamandala is derived. its also called as Bhagandeshwara Kshetra, The Bhagandeswara temple complex though said to have been built by the Cholas prior to the 11th century follows the gabled roof style of the Kerala temple architecture common on the west coast. The place is huge and spic and span. Priests perform pooja to the deities at the request of devotees. You can sit and do dhyana here in the corridors around the inner circle of the temple. In the evenings the garbha gudi is decorated with oil lamps giving it a very authentic look.

The Skanda Purana says that Bhagamandala was previously known as Bhaganda Kshetra in the ancient times. It was then renamed after a great sage named Sri Bhaganda Maharshi, who lived there in an ashram with his many disciples. A lot of people choose this sacred location to perform the last rites of their deceased, or perform rituals in the memory of their ancestors before proceeding to Talakaveri, the birthplace of Kaveri. They believe the sacred waters of the Triveni Sangam will bring peace and purity to the souls of their late loved ones.  

During 1785-1790, the area was occupied by Tipu Sultan. He renamed Bhagamandala to Afesalabad. In 1790 King Dodda Vira Rajendra took Bhagamandala back into an independent Kodagu kingdom.

Tips

• Please note: Photography inside the temple is not permitted. kindly wear the Clothing covering the full body shorts, skirts not allowed, can Wear jeans or full pants or a "dhoti".
• While on a visit to the temple which is a place of worship, you are advised to come decently dressed as a mark of respect. 
• Parking fee of Rs 20 is collected for your vehicle.
• Note that this Temple remains closed at 01:30 PM, and then re-opens at 3:30 PM everyday. SO plan your visit accordingly.
• They serve free lunch from 1:00 pm onwards daily and we would recommend you have this Prasadam which was tasty.
• Some small restaurants/tea shops are there nearby. Since nothing is available in TalaKaveri, stock up food and water from here itself.
