Raja's tomb aka Gaddige is one of the most important places in Madikeri, Coorg. This is important for both history lovers as well as for nature lovers, as this monument is built on the edge of the hilltop of the town from where you can get a commanding view of one part of Madikeri city. Raja's tomb is located at around 1.5 km towards north of Madikeri city. You may have to hire a taxi to reach this place. There are three structures in this complex. The monument was built in Indo-Saracenic style in 1820 CE. The Indo-Saracenic style appears to be popular during that period. The tombs are in the style of Muhammadan edifices with domes in the center and turrets at the angles.

There are two main tombs right side tomb is of Lingarajendra built by his son Chikkavirarajendra in A.D. 1820 and the left side of the tomb of Rudrappa (Royal Priest) which was built in 1834 and The Centre tomb is of Dodda Veerarajendra and his queen. There are other two tiny structures with inscription just right side of the tombs built after buried Royal officials Biddanda Bopu and his son Biddanda Somaiah (who died in the war on Tipu Sultan)., which mark the place’s significance are located in the central structure. You can find Shiva Linga symbols in the tomb, as the King was a Hindu. This is something different, which cannot be found in any other tomb in India, as most of the tombs belong to the Muslim kings. The tombs of the king’s priest and the two army commanders are located in the surrounding structures. There is a plaque in the name of General Biddanda Bopu, which calls the remembrance of the brave General who fought against Tipu Sultan.
