About
India’s first Butterfly Park is located in Bannerghatta biological park and is one of the more interesting places to visit in Bangalore. It occupies 7.5 acres and houses a butterfly conservatory, a museum, and an audiovisual room. The butterfly conservatory, a circular enclosure with a polycarbonate roof, is 10,000 sq ft Within the conservatory, the environment has been designed to support over twenty species of butterfly. The Zoo Authority of Karnataka (ZAK) with Department of Biotechnology (DoBT), Government of India, has jointly initiated the project during the year 2003 under a special master plan. The construction work initiated in 2003 was completed during 2007 and opened to the public for visitation. It is a unique project in the entire country and is serving as a role model in the nation, and most of the Zoos and parks interested to establish Butterfly Park are using this as a knowledge hub and plan to replicate.
