Singapore Botanic Gardens
Overview
The Singapore Botanic Gardens is Singapore's first World Heritage site and The Gardens is the first and only tropical botanic garden on the UNESCO’s World Heritage List. It is the first in Asia and the third botanic gardens inscribed in the world following Orto Botanico di Padova and the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. The Singapore Botanic Gardens is a 63.7-hectare (157-acre) botanical garden in Singapore. It is half the size of the Royal Botanic Gardens in Kew or around one-fifth the size of Central Park in New York. Located in the Dempsey area, The Singapore Botanic Gardens is a vibrant monument to the founding fathers of Singapore.
As a botanical institution, tourist destination and regional park, the gardens play an important role in educational outreach, horticulture, and botanical research and training. The Gardens possess an array of botanical and horticultural attractions with a rich history and a wonderful plant collection of worldwide significance. Complementing these unique resources are sensitive developments and entertainment events providing visitors educational and recreational facilities amidst the wonders of nature. It is the most visited botanic gardens in the world and is a unique example of the informal English Landscape Movement’s style in an equatorial climate.
